Preparing for Christmas

We’ve had a really busy few weeks at Swimbridge House Nursing Home, with lots of activities both in Swimbridge House and trips out.

We’ve has a lovely trip to St John’s Garden Centre in Barnstaple. We had a look around the Garden Centre and then stopped for a hot chocolate and a treat.

As we prepare for Christmas we’ve been crafting to make some amazing decorations that included paper chains and snowflake decorations. We’ve also been busy wrapping presents, playing games and getting into the Christmas spirt!

During this time we had the children from the nursery come over for a sing along nativity and our local vicar held our carol service.

Finally we had our spectacular Christmas party on Thursday so thank you to everyone who came tomand well done to everyone who won a raffle prize. We raised a total of £150 which is fantastic!

The Start of December 2023

What a start to December … we’ve not stopped!

Our main task has been getting the home ready for Christmas. We’ve been decorating the whole house and rooms and making sure everything and everyone is festive!

We’ve also had wine and chocolates while having christmas fun, games and a film.

A lovely singer called Peter with his adorable doggie rusty came and sing our first Christmas songs so we’re very much into the Christmas spirt! One of our residents also joined in on the guitar!

November Fun

So much has happened in November at Swimbridge House Nursing Home … there is lots to mention.

Probably the most important thing we’ve done is make our Christmas cakes ready for Christmas. Everyone helped and we made sure we has a stir of the mixture and made a wish.

We have had two students from Exeter college with us for the week and they have been a great help in the cake making process as well as helping with crafting and games.

We’ve also started on our Christmas decorations during arts and crafts. 🙂

We’ve had lots of trips out that included going to the Honey Farm in South Molton for coffee and cake

Peter and Rusty

Yesterday we had Peter and rusty come and visit us for a sing song and he was brilliant. We had such a good time and rusty the dog was adorable.

At Swimbridge House Nursing Home qe provide a wide range of activities to help keep a healthy body and mind. For more information on the activities we do within the home please visit our activities page.

Flower Arranging

We’ve had a flower arranging morning at Swimbridge House. Lots of seasonal flowers were available for our residents to put together their flowery master pieces!
Everyone did so well and the building was filled with wonderful displays.

Preparing for Halloween

We’ve been busy preparing for Halloween 🎃

We’ve been doing arts and crafts which got very messy with the glitter coming out as well as doing some hand painting.

With it being Halloween we’ve also been carving pumpkins which we have dotted them around the home.

We then had the children from Swallows nursery coming to trick or treat with us!

Just a quick update on our 100km for dementia uk – we have reached 80km with only 20km to go with less than a week left we need to pull up our walking socks and get walking 🚶‍♀️ Thank you to everyone who has donated or supported us on this adventure 😊

Fluff Fluff

Our dear Fluff Fluff has sadly been put to rest yesterday morning.
She was 22 years old and has been with us for many years. We will miss her dearly. She was very much part of our home.

RIP Fluff

American Day and Lantern Decorations In September

Swimbridge House Nursing Home had an American theme morning. We watched videos about travelling around America, the most popular places and what America looked like in 1960 inside a home and the country We then read some facts about America and had a themed lunch of burger and fries or hotdog and fries!

We also had another busy day making some lanterns to hang in our windows as decoration. We did this while having a sing song with Chrissy!

Through September and some of October we will be doing a food bank collection for Barnstaple food bank. There will be a donation box at reception if you wish to donate any items.
