Caring for Strong Bones at Swimbridge: Supporting World Osteoporosis Day

October 20th marks World Osteoporosis Day, a time to raise awareness about bone health and the importance of preventing osteoporosis – a condition that weakens bones, making them more likely to break.

At Swimbridge, we take a proactive approach to supporting residents’ health and wellbeing, and that includes helping to keep bones strong through nutrition, movement, and awareness.

What Is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis happens when bones lose strength and density, often without any symptoms until a fracture occurs. It’s especially common as we age, but the good news is that there are plenty of ways to help protect and maintain bone health.

How We Support Bone Health at The Glen

🥛 Nutritious Meals – Our kitchen team ensures residents enjoy balanced meals rich in calcium and vitamin D to help keep bones strong.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle Movement – Our regular exercise sessions and morning stretches help maintain mobility, balance, and bone strength.

☀️ Fresh Air and Sunshine – Residents enjoy time outdoors when the weather allows, helping the body naturally absorb vitamin D.

💬 Awareness and Care – Our team encourages open conversations with residents and families about bone health, offering advice and support when needed.

At Swimbridge, we believe that keeping active and well-nourished supports both physical and emotional wellbeing. This World Osteoporosis Day, we celebrate the small steps that make a big difference in helping our residents live strong, confident, and independent lives. 💛

At Swimbridge Nursing home we provide a wide range of activities for all our residents. For more information on our activities go to www.swimbridgehouse.co.uk/activities/
