Last week marked Dementia Action Week, a national campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness and inspire action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. At Swimbridge, we know how important it is to create a compassionate, supportive environment for those living with dementia – and for their families and loved ones too.
Dementia can affect memory, thinking, behaviour, and the ability to perform everyday tasks. But with the right support, many people living with dementia can still lead rich, meaningful lives. This week, we’ve taken time to reflect on how we can continue to improve our dementia care and understanding.
What We Do to Support Residents with Dementia:
- Personalised care plans tailored to individual routines, preferences, and history
- Reminiscence activities such as music, memory boxes, and storytelling
- Calming spaces and routines to reduce anxiety and confusion
- Dementia-friendly design, including clear signage, soft lighting, and familiar objects
- Ongoing staff training to ensure our team understands how best to support residents and communicate with compassion
