Celebrating International Dog Day 🐾
This Wednesday 26th August, we’ll be celebrating International Dog Day – a wonderful opportunity to recognise the joy, comfort and companionship that our four-legged friends bring to all three of our homes.
We’re lucky to regularly welcome pets and animal therapy dogs to visit our residents, and their arrival is always something to look forward to. From gentle strokes and cuddles to watching the dogs play, these visits create plenty of smiles and happy moments. 🐶❤️
The benefits of animal visits
Spending time with animals can have a really positive effect on our residents’ wellbeing. A friendly dog can encourage conversation, social interaction and reminiscence, helping residents connect with others and share stories about their own pets and experiences.
For many of our residents, seeing a dog can bring back wonderful memories of pets they have loved throughout their lives. These visits can spark conversations about childhood pets, family dogs and special memories, creating meaningful opportunities to reminisce and connect.
Animal visits can also provide comfort and companionship. Simply sitting with a dog, stroking their fur or watching them explore can be calming and uplifting, while giving residents something enjoyable and different to look forward to.
We often see how animals can bring people together. Residents who may be quieter during other activities can become more engaged when a furry visitor arrives, creating natural opportunities for conversation, laughter and connection.
Thank you to our furry friends! 🐾
International Dog Day gives us a lovely opportunity to celebrate all the pets and therapy dogs who visit our homes and the special moments they help create.
We’re grateful to all the owners, volunteers and therapy dogs who bring so much warmth and happiness to our residents. We look forward to welcoming many more four-legged visitors in the future and continuing to create opportunities for companionship, reminiscence, connection and plenty of smiles across all three of our homes.

Because sometimes, a wagging tail and a friendly face are all it takes to brighten someone’s day. ❤️🐶
