April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness, understanding, and support for those living with Parkinson’s disease. We recognise the importance of tailoring care to meet the unique needs of residents with Parkinson’s, while also providing comfort, dignity, and independence wherever possible.
🌼 What Is Parkinson’s Disease?
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and coordination. Symptoms can vary widely but often include tremors, stiffness, slowness of movement, balance issues, and speech changes. While it can present challenges, many people with Parkinson’s continue to live full and meaningful lives with the right support.
💙 Our Commitment to Personalised Care
Every individual’s experience with Parkinson’s is different. That’s why we work closely with residents, their families, and healthcare professionals to create tailored care plans. This includes:
-
Medication management to ensure timely and accurate administration.
-
Mobility support using walkers, physiotherapy input, and safe environments to prevent falls.
-
Nutritional support, such as easy-to-eat meals or thickened drinks where needed.
-
Emotional well-being, recognising the importance of mental health and companionship.
-
Gentle activity encouragement, helping residents stay as active as they’re able, in ways that feel safe and enjoyable.
🧠 Training Our Teams
Our dedicated care team regularly takes part in training to ensure they are knowledgeable about Parkinson’s disease and how best to support those living with it. We understand the importance of patience, clear communication, and compassion in every interaction.
🎶 Meaningful Activities
We also tailor our activity calendar to ensure residents with Parkinson’s can continue enjoying their favourite hobbies. This might include seated dance sessions, art and crafts, sensory gardening, music therapy, and one-to-one engagement for those who need more personalised approaches.
🧩 Family Involvement
We believe in working in partnership with families—because you know your loved one best. Whether it’s regular catch-ups, planning care goals together, or simply sharing special moments, we want everyone to feel connected and supported.
💛 Spreading Awareness
We want to help raise awareness and understanding of Parkinson’s. It’s all about creating a more informed and compassionate community—for our residents, staff, families, and beyond.
