D W (Daughter of Resident)

I’m delighted I chose Swimbridge House as my dad’s nursing home. Although he has only been there for a short while of his long term care, he’s settling in very well. All the staff from carers, nurses, the manager and other colleagues always greet residents and their visitors in a friendly and respectful way (which is so difficult to explain until you experience it) but makes a visit a relaxing pleasure for me. I’m impressed with dad’s room (complete with wetroom) we chose in the new wing. The decor, furniture and comfort aspect is excellent. There is plenty of room to manoeuvre (bearing in mind many residents require a walking aid). His personal additions from home add to his comfort. Dad has soon found his way around the well laid out shared areas – three separate lounges, all with TVs, reading material and more. Various activities/pastimes are available, with carers on hand to assist and occasional live entertainment as planned. The secure outside areas are also well planned.

The staff at Swimbridge House were wonderful from start to finish (and afterwards). The initial contact was hesitant but after that, we were encouraged to feel part of a family in a different place, but it was still to be home. From the removal of the hospital tag – “you are now at home” which set the tone, we were guided through a new phase of my husband’s life – towards death itself. I can’t thank everyone enough. They had time for us and were willing to listen and guide. They really cared for my husband.

Warm, clean and odour-free in all areas. The friendly and caring staff made family and friends welcome. The activities organisers put on a very good and varied programme which includes trips out and entertainers. End-of-life care was excellent, my husband treated with dignity and kept pain-free and hydrated. I was also looked after and included in all his needs, with staff ensuring that I was comfortable, had nourishment and was well supported.

Review from A H (Daughter of Resident)

Staff are professional and extremely kind. They treat residents and relatives with respect. They know everyone’s name and include them in plans and decisions. There is a great range of social activities, newsletters, gardening, entertainment, food and proper meal times in the dining room. National holidays and events are celebrated and relatives are involved. Staff are adaptable to individual’s foibles, as well as their care and medical needs. Also impressed with the training and indication of new staff to the Swimbridge “home from home” way.

I have always found all the staff very friendly and caring of Mum. She seems happy and although very disabled, is compos-mentis. Everywhere is clean and smells pleasant. Mum likes the meals and enjoys the trips out.
